The thrift store offers so many fun glass vases that it often doesn’t make sense to go buy a new one when you can customize your own for so cheap! I finally caved and decided to try the viral DIY texturized paint trick that’s been circulating pinterest recently (I know, so basic).
After a quick google search, I found most of the explanations on how to make it involved using one cup of paint (yikes) or just eyeballing it. I love a solid guessing game when it comes to making things but I thought I would share the recipe I used. All you need to do is mix together a 1/4 cup of paint with one tablespoon of baking soda. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1/4 cup of paint such as craft paint or acrylic (NOT oil based)
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- something to paint
Here’s the process:
- Mix everything together with a paint brush
- Paint onto your chosen item
- Let dry completely before using
- All done!
So obviously this is a pretty straight forward process. This also works on basically any surface. I used two coats of this on a glass vase I thrifted as well as this weird holder thing (is it for towelettes or necklaces?? I have no idea). I think it would also be a great way to recycle glass or plastic jars from the grocery store.
This is an easy craft to decorate your home while saving money and minimizing your carbon footprint by buying second hand or upcycling. Have fun with it!
