For the past couple years, I’ve been trying to get most of my clothes second hand to try to minimize my carbon footprint. With a little bit of TLC, I’m able to transform most of my pre-loved finds into a completely new garment! If you’re like me and trying to be more sustainable or if you are simply on the lookout for a good bargain, this is the project for you. I made this entire shirt for two dollars using stuff I already had on hand.
This took me 5 minutes to make in total. It’s also a comfortable shirt to wear and easy to style. You’re basically only going to need two main things: a pair of scissors (or shears) and an old t-shirt you don’t wear anymore. I got this shirt in the bargain section of my local thrift store. At the time, I didn’t know I was going to cut it up into this cute little number, I just really liked the colour and knew its special moment would someday come.
Its special moment finally came when I saw clothing stores selling these shirts for $30+! For the actual cutting process of the shirt, you’re only going to be cutting the front side open, so make sure you leave the back side untouched. The only time I touched the back was when I opted to cut off the entire collar of the shirt for a more consistent look. The only thing you have to do is cut a thin V shape all the way down the front. Once you put on the shirt, use the two flaps you now have to tie a knot.
This method typically works well on all materials and sizes so have fun with it! If you end up making one, tag @theseatofonespants on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter so that I can see your creations as well 🙂
